Types of CNC Machining Operations

CNC Milling: Milling is a machining process that uses rotating multi-point cutting tools to remove excess material from the workpiece. In CNC milling, the machine usually feeds the stock material to the cutting tool in the same direction as the rotation of the cutting tool. Common milling processes include face milling and peripheral milling.

CNC Turning: The turning process employs single-point cutting tools to remove unnecessary material from a rotating workpiece. In CNC turning, the lathe or turning center feeds the cutting tool in a linear motion along the surface of the rotating workpiece, thereby removing material along the circumference until the required specification is reached.

CNC Drilling: In CNC drilling the machine usually feeds the rotating drill bit perpendicular to the plane of the workpiece's surface, which produces vertically aligned holes whose diameter is equal to the diameter of the drill bit used for this operation. However, it is also possible to perform angular drilling operations by using specialized machine configurations and workpiece fixing devices.
